Beta participation terms

Courtesy translation. The German version is the legally binding one; in case of discrepancies the German text prevails. The service is operated from Germany and governed by German law.

1. Subject

uucpmail.de is an experimental e-mail service that transfers messages between the internet and participants' UUCP systems. The service is in a beta phase: it exists for testing and further development and is not a production offering.

2. Participation and term

Participation is free of charge and by invitation after signing up via e-mail. There is no entitlement to participation or to continued operation of the service. Either side may end participation at any time without notice; where possible we will announce a shutdown or substantial change of the service at least 14 days in advance by e-mail.

3. Scope (free tier)

1 account, 50 MB server queue, max. 250 messages in the queue, max. 10 MB per message, unfetched messages are kept for 30 days (then returned to the sender), sending limit 100 messages/hour. Limits may be adjusted during the beta.

4. Beta character – no availability or quality guarantees

The service is provided “as is”. There is no guaranteed availability, no maintenance-window notice and no promise of freedom from defects. Interruptions, data loss (including the entire mailbox) and short-notice changes are possible – even though we run backups and work carefully. The service is not suitable for business-critical, time-critical or otherwise important communication. Keep a second mail path for such purposes during the beta.

5. Liability

As the service is provided free of charge, we are liable only for intent and gross negligence and – independently of that – for damage arising from injury to life, body or health and under mandatory statutory provisions. Liability for simple negligence, in particular for data loss, delayed or failed delivery of messages and lost profits, is excluded.

6. Participants' obligations

No sending of spam, malware or unlawful content; no sharing of access; registered sender addresses only; keep private SSH keys secret and report any loss immediately. In case of abuse we may suspend access immediately. Participants indemnify us against third-party claims based on a culpable breach of these obligations. Details on permitted and prohibited use are set out in the acceptable use policy.

7. Data at the end of the beta

When participation or the beta ends, stored messages and access data are deleted as described in the privacy policy. Unfetched messages may lapse after prior notice.

8. Final provisions

German law applies. Should individual provisions be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
